At present I make two models of Clarsach, the 'Ossian' and the 'Dalriada'. The 31 string 'Ossian' and the 'Dalriada' are based on clarsachs made for the newly formed Clarsach Soceity in the 1930s and 40s. The originals were made by Henry Briggs of Glasgow.
In contrast to most modern harps these are lightly built and lightly strung. This I believe gives a sweeter, richer sound reminiscent of earlier instruments, and much gentler on the fingers.
Special care is taken in the shaping and finishing of these clarsachs in order to achieve a smooth and elegant design. French polished wood, specially made tuning-pins, ebony soundboard-pegs and best quality semitone-levers all add to the superb quality and style of these instruments.
I currently make three sizes of the Ossian and one of the Dalriada (please see price list for details of ranges and sizes).
As with all of my harps the sizes, carving, decoration and materials can be adapted to suit the individual requirements so each instrument can be custom built to fit the player. This includes being strung to different tensions, ranges, and player positions (left/right handed).
