Clarsachs
At Present I make several models of Clarsach, including the ‘Briggs’ style of ‘Ossian’ and the ‘Dalriada’. I have recently begun production of Ceilidh Harps alongside the ‘Briggs’ Clarsachs.
Briggs Clarsachs
The ‘Ossian’ and ‘Dalriada’ are based on Clarsachs made for the then newly formed Clarsach Society in the 1930s and 1940s. The originals were made by Henry Briggs of Glasgow.
In contrast to most modern harps, these are lightly built and lightly strung. This I believe, gives a sweeter, richer sound reminiscent of earlier instruments, and much gentler on the fingers.
Special care is taken in the shaping and finishing of these Clarsachs in order to achieve a smooth and elegant design. French polished wood, specially made tuning pins, ebony soundboard-pegs and best quality semi-tone levers all add to the superb quality and style of these instruments.
I currently make four sizes of the Ossian
22 string (4th octave G to 1st octave G, 77.5 cm / 30.5", 3 kilos / 7 lbs)
26 string (4th octave C to 1st octave G, / 10 lbs)
31 string (6th octave E to 1st octave G, 105 cm / 41.25", 5.5 kilos / 13 lbs)
34 string (6th Octave B to 1st octave G, 113 cm / 44.5", 6 kilos / 13 lbs)
and one Dalriada:
30 string (6th octave E to 1st octave F, 103 cm / 40.5", 5.5 kilos / 13 lbs)

Ceilidh Harps
After meeting with Nigel & Helen Morgan (many people may remember them from the times of the EIHF at the Pleasance) who created and made Ceilidh Harps. I have agreed to carry on the business of Ceilidh Harps along side my existing harps, giving people the choice of owning a Ceilidh Harp made to the original plans.
