Italian Harps
Arpa Doppia (Italian Double)
My first 'Arpa Doppia' commission was completed in June 2006. The original instrument was made in the late 16th Century and is kept in the Museo Civico in Bologna, Italy.
The harp has 56 gut strings, 29 diatonic strings covering four octaves from C to C and 27 Chromatic Strings:
14 to the right of the lower to octaves (the left hand fingers pass between the diatonic strings to play them)
13 to the left of the upper two octaves (the right hand fingers pass between the diatonic strings to play these)
The harp stands at 128 cm (46.5") tall without the stand.
Made from Flamed Sycamore. The soundbox is made from two halves front and back, hollowed out and glued together, the front has flat sections giving the appearance of being 'staved', the back is rounded. This harp comes with a cradle-stand to hold the instrument when not being played.

All instruments can be custom made to fit the individuals needs and requirements. Instruments can be strung for left or right handed players. The finish and decoration and style of the harp can also be customised to the individuals requirements.
