Pedal Harps
My first Single Action Pedal Harp the James Anthony, is based on an 'Erard' design known as the 'Empire'. This harp has a deeper pedal-box (with brass pedals) to house the springs. Earlier instruments had a shallower pedal-box, iron pedals and coil springs in the mechanism.
I follow the original dimensions, specifications and stringing. The main construction is in Maple/Sycamore. The demonstration model has been stained and french polished to a rich chestnut colour and fully water gilded. The decoration on the demonstration model includes thin line borders, ramsheads, garlands, mythical beasts, acanthus leaves and Egyptian motives – identical to original instruments. Sebastian Erard made single action pedal harps between 1790-1837.
The rear doors on the soundbox (operated by an eighth pedal) were fitted to all original instruments. This creates a swell or vibrato effect when the pedals are moved up and down. This harp has 42 strings from 7th octave E to 1st octave D (the two highest notes are not effected by the mechanism). This harp stands tall at 171.5 cm (67.5").

All instruments can be custom made to fit the individuals needs and requirements. Instruments can be strung for left or right handed players. The finish and decoration and style of the harp can also be customised to the individuals requirements.
