Welsh Triple Harps
Currently I make two 'Welsh Triple' Harps. These are the William John and the Emma Elizabeth. Both are based on harps measured and photographed at St. Fagans Museum of Welsh Life (Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom).
Both these instruments are strung approximately two octaves light.
William John
William John is based on an 18th Century (c. 1700s) T.I. harp from Chester. The harp stands at 6'6"/198cm and has a range from 6th Octave F to 1st Octave G. The soundboard on this instrument has a rounded fronted made of spruce with the grain running vertically.
Emma Elizabeth
Emma Elizabeth is based on a later 19th Century (c. 1800s) harp belonging to Lady Buckley. The soundboard runs flat and horizontally in spruce. Slightly smaller in height than the William John, the Emma Elizabeth stands tall at 6'2"/189cm, with a range of 6th Octave F to 1st Octave A.
Future Aspirations
I will also make replica triple harps by other top names of the past, I have detailed plans, measurements and photographs of the David Evans Triple Harp currently held at the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A, South Kensington, London, United Kingdom), and also for the John Richards Triple Harp. I can also make smaller triple harps with a range from 6th Octave C to 1st Octave E.
Further Information
All instruments can be custom made to fit the individuals needs and requirements. Instruments can be strung for left or right handed players. The finish and decoration and style of the harp can also be customised to the individuals requirements.
